The word ‘Hariana’ occurs in a Sanskrit inscription dated 1328 AD kept in Delhi Museum which refers to this region as “The heaven on earth”

From Punjab, we head down south, to the state of Haryana: the cradle of Vedic and Hindu civilization. Historically, Haryana has seen a lot, from the glorious battles that took place in Panipat, to the composing of the Mahabharata and other ancient Vedic and Hindu scriptures and epics.

Mostly a forgotten state, when it comes to tourism, the recent growth of Gurgaon, as a major outsourcing hub, due to it’s proximity to Delhi, has revived interest in Haryana. Gurgaon is also famous for its many modern shopping malls, and towering skyscrapers.

The union territory of Chandigarh, is the capital of Haryana, which is also the capital of Punjab.

Even though there was very little to choose from, let us take a look at Haryana through the following photographers on flickr:

Old Haveli’s and Forts.
Flowers, insects, and street vendors.
Hansi and Hissar
Gurgaon. I could not see these photographs on Andabak’s page on flickr, but it shows up in the search. Page 11, 12, 13

Next state – Uttar Pradesh
