The Holy Red Dot

For centuries, Hindu women have worn a spot on their foreheads.

We have always naively thought that it had something to do with their Religion.

The true story has recently been revealed by the Indian Embassy in
Washington, D.C.

When one of these women gets married, she brings with her, a dowry. On her wedding night, the husband scratches off the spot to see if he has won either a convenience store, a gas station, a donut shop or a motel in the United States.

Joking aside, here is Kamat’s explanation of the significance of the holy red dot, or bindhi.

Red Dot is just what it is Red Dot, or is it. It is what you believe not what others believe, live as you do not what others think.

In an ideal world, I would agree with you, but we live in a system, where we are conditioned on prior knowlege and belief systems. We could try to live based on our thoughts alone, but then the question arises, would we have progressed this far, if it was not for the influence of others thoughts and beliefs.

The red dot on it’s own is just a red dot, but by giving it a meaning, a karmic chain of events was born. It’s significance can only be found by tracking the chain of events. The down side, as with all karma, the consequences are unpredicatable.
