Scared of My Creativity? No More!

I am not an artist. This is my first attempt at drawing. My husband frequently explores his artistic side and for some reason yesterday I took his sketch book from him and told him that I was going to draw him. I said this jokingly, but then once the pencil touched the paper it turned into something more than just a joke. I was really trying to make the picture look like him. Once the picture was finished it looked nothing like my husband. However, the picture of the nameless man looked pretty good. I was truly amazed that something like that came from me. It is not an amazing drawing, but it is amazing that it came from me.

I decided to draw more, immediately after I saw the product of my mind and hand working together. I drew about four more pictures, and there were couple that I thought were not half bad.

I am the type of person who draws stick figures and that is as far as it goes. In fact I signed up for an art class entitled “art for the non-art major“. I went the first day and the professor went through the syllabus, the entire semester was drawing. I thought it was for the “non-art major“, needless to say I dropped the class that same day. I now regret that decision and wonder what kind of artist I could have become.

I found that as I was drawing it brought a sort of peace to me. I know that sounds funny, but I drew in silence and it gave me a feeling of serenity. I will continue to draw and see how much I can improve my new found ability.

    Hey Missy!

Great work, I think you’re discounting yourself when you say your not an artist, these works prove otherwise. Those are really great. I love the cherubic sleeping childs face, its so innocent and lovely. Well done!!

Hey ZQ, Glad to see that you’ve picked up a pencil again. I did the same recently and realised that I had quite a good talent. Unfortunately I don’t have a scanner to put my work up but if I do come across one i’ll try and put some up too.

Well done and don’t give up! 🙂

These are beautiful drawings! I strongly believe that we are all creative beings, yet society puts a label on some and intimidates others.
Thank you for posting these, it may well inspire me to get out the old scetch book –much negelected since I started working digitally. The computer screen NEVER has the meditative effect you describe, this great sense of focus and silence.
