    We become what we think

Why did Buddha say that? Was it from his own experience? Did he think he would be Buddha one day?

That does raise an interesting question about the quote, whether Buddha was talking in terms of what we would become, or was he thinking more of the present—thoughts defining who we are, and not who we will become? Maybe some of it is lost in translation.

But I personally feel that not only is our life shaped by our mind, but our mind is shaped by life as well. What I mean by that is, if circumstances were different for me, and I had gone through a different set of experiences, perceptions, culture, religion, and education, the state of my mind could be different, resulting in different sets of thoughts and actions, which could potentially lead to a whole different individual compared to who I am today.

Will it be safe to conclude that our mind does shape our life, but the mind is not a constant, so in reciprocal, life shapes the mind? What we are today, we can evalutate, what we will become tomorrow depends on our karma.
