Punjab, the next stop on our tour of India through flickr, is situated south of Jammu and Kashmir and west of Himachal Pradesh. A great deal of India’s history still lay hidden here, in the ruins of the glorious ancient cities of Harappa and Mohenjodaro. Punjab, is also one of the most fertile regions of the country, and is often know as the “Granary of India.

Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab, is also the capital of Haryana, and is administered as a union territory. This city was created after the previous capital, Lahore, became part of Pakistan after the partition. Another popular city is Amritsar, the location of the famous Golden Temple(Harmandir Sahib). Punjab is also the birth place of Sikhism, the dominant religion of the state, founded by Guru Nanak Dev.

Even though I was a little disappointed in the quality and quantity of pictures form Punjab on flickr, a few photographers did stand out, and now let us experience Punjab through their images:

PBSIKH
Photographs from the Punjab countryside.
Ind Sikh
Facinating photographs of the people of Punjab, and their culture, I was hoping to see more.
Valachery Balu
Golden Temple
Max Boschini
Even though these photographs were taken in Brescia, Italy; the portrayal of the colors, culture and people of Punjab, is stunning!

Next state – Haryana
